I refer to your email of 14 September 2021, requesting information regarding the release of a 
former prisoner from Rimutaka Prison. 
 
Your request has been considered in accordance with the provisions of the Official Information 
Act 1982 (OIA).  
 
You requested:

Please provide all information held, generated and received regarding the release of 
former prisoner David Ross from Wellington Regional Prison (Rimutuka Prison).  Mr 
Ross was released on February 24 2020.  I would like the search period to extend to 
6 months prior to his release up to the present day. 
 
I have interpreted your request to include any records held, generated or received by my office 
in my capacity as the Minister of Corrections. 
 
As  Minister  of  Corrections  I  receive  regular  briefings  and  updates  from  officials  on  various 
issues.  However,  I  cannot  intervene  in,  nor  does  my  office  generally  hold  records  about, 
operational matters such as individuals’ releases from prison. 
 
My office does not hold and has not generated or received information regarding the release 
of former prisoner David Ross within the time period requested. As such, your request for this 
information  is  refused  pursuant  to  section  18(e)  of  the  OIA,  as  the  documents  you  have 
requested do not exist.
