Response to your request for official information
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) partially transferred
to the Ministry of Health (the Ministry) on 15 October 2021 for information regarding COVID-19
exposure events. Each point of your request is answered in turn.
For this August/September outbreak
I request the total number of exposure events.
As at 10:00am on 15 October 2021 there has been a total of 2,594 exposure events for the
outbreak.
The total number of exposure events where it was not compliant with Level 4.
An exposure event is created in the National Contact Tracing Solution (NCTS) where a case
has been in contact with others. The contact tracing system focusses on ensuring the potential
for onwards transmission is minimised irrespective of Alert Level settings. It is not routinely
recorded in the NCTS whether such events were adhering to the Alert Level restrictions that
were in place at the time.
The total number of people infected where the source was an exposure event where it
was not compliant with Level 4.
The NCTS is used to record information regarding COVID-19 case and contact management
and neither information on compliance with Alert Levels for exposure events is not routinely
recorded in the NCTS. Furthermore, the NCTS is not a confirmed source of source at ribution
information.
Under section 28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review any
decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be contacted by email at:
