[FYI request #16831 email]
Ref: DOIA 2122-0688
Dear Ziyun (Evan) Wang,
Thank you for your email of 22 September 2021 requesting under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act), the following information:
“I am writing to kindly seek the breakdown of approvals of Other Critical Worker("OCW") Border
Exemption Requests to date by occupations, months of decision, reasons for approval,
background of the roles, pay, duration of the roles(short-term or long-term) and employers(if
possible).”
Our Response Please find attached Appendix A, which shows Other Critical Worker (OCW) approvals from 18 June 2020
to 11 October 2021, broken down by month of approval, Sector, and Border Exception Criteria. Note
that OCW border exception requests may include multiple workers within a single request.
The following information has been withheld under section 18(f) of the Act as Immigration New Zealand is
unable to provide this in a reportable format:
Occupations
Background of the roles
Pay
Employers
The information requested cannot be made available without substantial collation.
Providing this information would remove Ministry staff from their core duties and therefore the greater
public interest in the effective and efficient administration of the public service would not be served. I have
considered whether the Ministry would be able to respond to your request given extra time or the ability
to charge for the information requested. I have concluded that, in both cases, the Ministry’s ability to
undertake its work would still be prejudiced.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information
about how to make a complaint is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
