OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST - COVID-19 HOSPITALISATIONS
Thank you for your email, received 18 October 2021, requesting information under the
Official Information Act 1982. This request relates to information about the current
Covid-19 Delta outbreak.
You have requested the following information:
1. What is the total number of Covid cases that required hospital care in your region
since the start of the current delta outbreak?
Three patients presented to Waikato Hospital who were suspected or
confirmed COVID-19
One patient presented and discharged from Waikato Hospital who was later
confirmed with COVID-19
2. How many of those cases have been hospitalised for:
a) Covid-19 related acute health issues as a primary reason?
Two patients requiring inpatient care
b) Unrelated acute health issues as a primary reason while testing positive for
Covid?
No patient
c) Monitoring purposes only (no acute health issues at time of admission)?
No patient
3. What was the average time spent in hospital?
Patient One - eight days inpatient stay
Patient Two – presented to ED less than twelve hours stay
Patient Three – admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours
Patient Four – presented to ED less than five hours stay, confirmed COVID
positive three days after discharge
4. How many of those cases required supplemental oxygen at some point during their
hospital stay?
One patient required supplemental oxygen.
