Local Government Official Information And Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA)
RE: Sarah Trotman conduct hearing
Thank you for your information request dated 19 October 2021, regarding ex local board
member Sarah Trotman’s code of conduct hearing.
The specific details of your request and our response is below.
Please provide me with all information and communications held by council on the
formal complaint that was laid against now ex local board member Sarah Trotman and
the code of conduct hearing that was held into her actions relating to protests over
Western Springs Park.
A forensic email search was conducted to get an indication of the number of emails that may
meet the parameters of your request. The searches returned a lot of hits, 1516 emails in
total. It is likely that some of these emails are not in scope but determining this is largely a
manual task.
It would take a significant amount of time to locate, review, and collate al of the information
requested, which may interfere with Auckland Council’s ability to carry out its day-to-day
operations due to complying with your request. We do not believe that charging or extending
the response timeframe would enable the request to be granted in this instance.
Furthermore, even if we were able to collate the requested information, it is likely that much
of it would be withheld on the basis of an obligation of confidence as the information relates
to a complaint raised by staff about an elected member, as well as the code of conduct
hearing process.
In view of this, your request has been refused under section 17(f) of the LGOIMA as the
information requested cannot be made available without substantial col ation or research.
You are welcome to submit a more refined request for information to avoid the need for
substantial collation and research, noting as detailed above that there may be information
that would be withheld due to its sensitive nature.
Decisions relating to what information is being released to you were made by Phil Wilson,
Governance Director.
