Dear Shane
Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request dated 2 November 2021, for the
following:
Could you please provide details of the procurement process used to procure the
services used to deliver the capability referred to in this news article:
https://www.arcanum.ai/blog/nz-police
The procurement process was a direct source and met the criteria under Rule 14, Clause 9 e -
a Prototype, as per the Government Rules of Sourcing (2019 3rd ed), whereby Police was
exempt from open advertising.
Rule 14 is publicly accessible via the following link:
https://www.procurement.govt.nz/procurement/principles-charter-and-rules/government-
procurement-rules/getting-started/exemption-from-open-advertising/.
I can advise that Arcanum.ai (formerly Intella AI) was withdrawn at the conclusion of the
prototype phase.
Please note that as part of its commitment to openness and transparency, Police proactively
releases some information and documents that may be of interest to the public. Therefore an
anonymised version of this response may be publicly released on the New Zealand Police
website.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are not satisfied with
the response to your request. Information about how to make a complaint is available at:
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
Yours sincerely
