Dear Adam

Thank you for your email of 4 November 2021 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(the Ministry) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:

I request under the Official Information Act the justification for why MIQ fees have not reduced
despite the required length of stay having been reduced to a 7 day stay.

I can advise that Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) fees will be reduced when the reduction of
time in MIQ takes effect.

On 28 October 2021, the Government announced the first step in managed isolation changes, which
included halving the time overseas arrivals spend in MIQ facilities from 14 November 2021. The
announcement is available at this link:

https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/first-step-managed-isolation-changes-expanding-qft-pacific

On the same day, the Ministry published further information relevant to the Government’s
announcement, which included a reduction in MIQ fees, available at the following link:

https://www.miq.govt.nz/about/news/shorter-stays-in-miq/

I trust you find the information helpful.  You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the
Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.

Yours sincerely
