YOUR OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT (1982) REQUEST HBDHB REF: OIA2021170
I refer to your Official Information Act request dated 10 December 2021 where you requested information
from Hawke’s Bay District Health Board (HBDHB). Your questions and HBDHB’s response is provided below:
“Please provide Guidelines/Procedures for the management of postoperative Urinary Retention (POUR)”
"Please provide Guidelines/procedure for the management/prevention of persistent Postsurgical Pain”
“Please provide Guidelines/procedure in the treatment of patients after a suicide attempt and/or
suicidal ideation”
“Please provide Guidelines/procedure differentiating subtypes of primary (idiopathic) constipation”
In response to questions one, two and four, Hawke’s Bay DHB does not hold specific guidelines or
procedures. Therefore, under section 18 (e) of the Official Information Act your request is declined due to
information that does not exist.
Please note that each individual is managed by their treating medical and nursing teams in accordance
with their clinical condition. Medical teams follow contemporary medical advice and recommendations in
treating these conditions based on the individuals clinical need.
In response to question three, Hawke’s Bay DHB follows national Ministry of Health guidelines – the
assessment and management of people at risk of suicide, (attached).
The pathway includes triage, assessment, removal of lethal means, safety plan and follow up. Treatment
interventions can include; home with whānau support and agreed safety plan, home with home-based
treatment, crisis respite or admission to the Mental Health unit. This is all determined by the assessment
and the planning that is undertaken with whaiora and whānau.
Additionally, the DHB has a ‘Mental Health follow-up after attempted suicide’ policy. (This policy is
attached). The policy was first issued in April 2015 with a review date of September 2021 and the next
review being September 2024.
I trust this information meets your needs. If you would like any further information or clarification please
phone me. If you are not satisfied with this response you may contact the Office of the Ombudsman,
phone 0800 802 602.
