Dear M. J.
We refer to your information request dated 8 December 2021 made under the Official Information
Act 1982 (the Act). You have requested grade breakdowns of the COSC349, COSC301, COSC344,
INFO201, INFO303, INFO310 and INFO301 papers from 2017 – 2021.
You have requested that this data be sent in a machine-readable format, ideally in a spreadsheet
format. Please see attached a spreadsheet that shows the information you have requested.
For privacy reasons, the University’s standard practice is not to report on marks which relate to less
than 5 students. Where the numbers are very low there is a risk that the identity of these students
could be determined/inferred, and that their personal information (i.e. their marks) could be
revealed. We therefore withhold this information pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act.
Accordingly, where the grade is Fail D, Fail E, Failed Compulsory Assessment, Failed Terms or
Aegrotat, if there are less than 5 students per year across all years we have grouped those students
together. Where the grade is Fail D, Fail E, Failed Compulsory Assessment, Failed Terms or Aegrotat,
if there are less than 5 students per year across only some years we have indicated this using <5.
We also note that COSC349 was not offered in 2017 or 2018, and INFO301, INFO303 and INFO310
were not offered in 2017, therefore there is no data for these papers in these years.
We trust that this information will be helpful.
We note your right to seek a review of these decisions via a complaint to an Ombudsman. However,
we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
Yours sincerely
