'Misconduct' and 'Serious Misconduct' are findings at the conclusion of an investigation, along with
other findings such as 'Poor performance' or 'Not at fault'.
'Performance' indicates Performance Management or an Expectation setting.
'Remedial' indicates Training or a Debrief/Lessons learnt.
'Resigned/Retired' indicates the employee exited Police during the process of the investigation.
Ongoing may have outcomes that are not yet recorded, and the case may still be open for
administrative reasons.
The count of employees indicates the number of employees with that allegation type. Some
employees may be investigated for multiple allegation types. The 'Total' of employees is therefore the
actual number of employees, not a total of the column.
The count of outcomes indictaes the number of employees with that outcome for the allegation type.
Some employees may have several allegations of that allegation type, with different outcomes.
Therefore totalling the outcomes for an allegation type may not equate to the number of employees.
The counts cannot be used for the number of investigations, as some investigations may include
multiple employees.
'Significant event' involves such things as a discharge of firearm or a vehicle pursuit resulting in injury
or death.

The count of criminal charges indicates the number of employees criminally charged. An employee may
be charged with several different charges or several 'counts' of one charge. This count is additional to
the counts of employment outcomes.
'Other' includes Pre‐charge/Written Warnings, Written Traffic Warnings or Infringement Offence
Notices (which includes IONs for breaches of COVID‐19 regulations). This count is additional to the
counts of employment outcomes.
Disclaimer
The information contained in this response is based on data extracted from a continuously expanding
operational database, with the earliest record dating from January 1984. The current more efficient
database application was introduced on 1 July 2009, and improved data structures were gradually and
continuously introduced from December 2010 onwards. Therefore, not all the data is reliable and may
result in omissions and/or errors, especially prior to 2011. The data is dynamic and subject to change
as new information is received. While quality assurance has been undertaken on some low‐volume
critical incident types (e.g. Police use of firearms resulting in injury or death), and reviews are
undertaken of database records as and when anomalies are identified, quality assurance of all the data
would require the manual checking of many thousands of hard copy and electronic files, which is
