Official Information Act request: Identity fraud offences of Ministry of Justice staff
Thank you for your email of 19 January 2022 requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982
(the Act), information relating to identity fraud of ences of Ministry of Justice (the Ministry)
employees and contractors. Specifically, you requested:
Please provide any statistics on the number of employees and contractors since Year
2000, found to have committed identity fraud-related offences while being an employee or
contractor of the Ministry of Justice (including the Department for Courts).
Please breakdown the statistics to number of employees and number of contractors by
each calendar year.
It is a requirement for Ministry employees to complete a criminal history check when an offer of
employment is made. Employees are also required to declare criminal offences when in
employment. These are dealt with on a case-by-case basis. The Ministry does not keep
centralised records on criminal offences by employees, as these are held on individual files.
Therefore, I am refusing your request under section 18(f) of the Act on the grounds that the
information would require substantial collation.
If you require any further information, please contact the Ministry media team by calling
(04) 918 8836; or emailing [email address]
If you are not satisfied with my response, you have the right to complain to the Ombudsman
under section 28(3) of the Act. The Ombudsman may be contacted by email at
[email address]
