Dear Harold
Official Information Act request relating to the Australia-New Zealand National Security
Dialogue
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request received on 7 February 2022. You
requested:
“ONE: A copy of the full document Australia-New Zealand National Security Dialogue:
Briefing Pack (12 March 2021) – i.e. including the parts of this document not processed for
release for the OIA request above as they were not in scope.
TWO: Copies of all other “Briefing Packs” produced for each Australia-New Zealand
National Security Dialogue since the inaugural dialogue in October 2016.”
On 2 March 2022, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) contacted you to advise
that due to the volume of information within scope of your request, and the consultations that will be
needed to make a decision, a lengthy extension will be required to allow DPMC to provide you with a
response within the timeframes of the Act. We asked if you would instead be willing to narrow the
scope of your request to allow DPMC to provide you with a response more promptly. You replied that
you would prefer to keep your request as it currently stands, and that you understood that a lengthy
extension would be required.
I have decided under section 15A of the Act to extend the time limits for deciding on your request by
an additional 60 working days. Consequently, the extended due date for your response will be 2 June
2022.
The extension is required because your request necessitates a search through a large quantity of
information, and consultations are needed before a decision can be made on your request. Despite
the extension, a response will be sent to you as soon as possible.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under section 28(3)
of the Act.
Yours sincerely
Sarah Corbett
