Thank you for your email of 7 February 2022 requesting the following information under the Official 
Information Act 1982 (the Act): 
 
…Please provide all information held by NZTA that relates to cameras and the 
convoy/protest, including  
- all internal correspondence or records of any discussions 
- any correspondence  with any Minister or official in any minister’s office; and/or  
- any correspondence with other government departments 
 
All correspondence and documents that fall in scope of your request are outlined in the Document 
Schedule appended to this response.  
 
Certain information has been withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act. This section allows for the 
withholding of information to protect the privacy of natural persons, including that of deceased natural 
persons. Other information has been withheld under section 9(2)(ba)(ii) of the Act as it is subject to an 
obligation of confidence, and releasing it would likely damage the public interest. 
 
With respect to the information that has been withheld, I do not consider there are any other factors 
which would render it desirable, in the public interest, to make the information available. 
 
You have also requested the following information: 
 
Please also provide all information held by NZTA about every camera outage that 
occurred during the period 1 February 2022-8 February 2022, inclusive. This should 
include, but not be limited to: 
- the start and end time of each outage by camera 
- the duration of each outage for each camera; 
- any records with an initial indication or finalised view on the cause of the outage 
- any remedial steps taken or contemplated to avoid recurrence of the outage. 
 
I am not seeking any reports from members of the public about the unavailability of these 
feeds.

In general, when undertaking remedial action for devices covered under a maintenance contract, we 
contact our maintenance contractor who investigates and works on resolving the issue. Issues 
detected throughout that triage process inform actions needed to remedy issues, and remedial action 
can vary from resetting devices remotely to replacing hardware (which is subject to annual renewal 
schedules) or decommissioning sites. For devices not covered under a maintenance contract, our 
Technology Operations team works on initiating funding and resources to carry out similar actions on a 
case-by-case basis. 
 
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to
