Kia ora Mike,
The information you requested - CAS-509340-M2B0X1
Thank you for your request for information dated 11 February regarding the recently installed
Onewa Road T3 Lane cameras. The planned date for operational use of the technology on Onewa
Road for compliance is 28 March 2022.
The questions have been answered in order to commercially protect the intellectual property rights
around the solution.
What is the software technology being used i.e. AI, machine learning, number plate recognition, or
manual footage review.
If there is an element of machine learning, has there been a testing / training period for the AI?
Auckland Transport uses technology which utilises in-house developed Computer Vision algorithms
as well as Automatic Number Plate recognition.
The technology was tested for a period of 12 months, which included the AI training.
What is the hardware being used, i.e. thermal cameras, infrared cameras.
What are each of the cameras?
What does each camera do and aim to capture.
A number of cameras are being used, including a camera that captures footage of a vehicle travelling
in the transit lane beginning to end, and side cameras that capture clear images of the vehicle
travelling past the unit.

A general overview of the system and how it works, in totality from start to finish, including
specifications and specifics of each camera
• CCTV cameras captures evidential footage of a vehicle travelling in the transit lane beginning
to end.
• The images are sent back to AT systems where AT-developed computer vision algorithms
count the occupants and creates the infringement evidential pack.
• This evidential pack is sent in near real time to a warranted Parking Officer who will review
and determine (by witnessing) if an offence has occurred, then issue an infringement notice
if required.
Should you believe that we have not responded appropriately to your request, you are able to make
a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman in accordance with section 27(3) of the LGOIMA Act,
and seek an investigation and review in regard to this matter.
Yours sincerely
