REF: OIA-9557
Dear Dan
Extending the time to respond to your request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email
of 8 February 2022 requesting the fol owing information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Dear New Zealand Transport Agency,
Bridges, culverts, subways etc. on the New Zealand state highway network have signage with the
numbered state highway shield, a number indicating the distance from the start of the highway,
and a name to identify it (for example the name of the river it crosses).
Please send me a list of this information in CSV format for all state highways nationwide. The list
should include for each piece of infrastructure the state highway number, the number indicating
distance, the common name used, any other names used, and location coordinates for it in a
common geographic format.
Please include any pieces of infrastructure in addition to bridges, culverts, and subways that aren't
these things if they use this same signage system.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is extending the 20 working days available to us to respond to your
request. This is allowed for under section 15A of the Act. We need ten more working days to respond
to your request. We wil send you our response on or before 1 April 2022.
We are extending the deadline because the collation and consultations required for Waka Kotahi to
respond to your request is such that a decision could not be made within 20 working days. It wil take
us more than 20 working days to thoroughly respond to your request.
Further, and in line with Ombudsman guidance, we seek verification of your eligibility to make this
request, as per section 12(1) of the Act. We request that you provide proof of your eligibility to our
contact email address below by 25 March 2022, rather than to the public FYI website. This can be
through any of the following means:
• Providing a New Zealand Driver Licence
• Proof of citizenship or permanent residency
• Proof that you are located in New Zealand; or
• Proof that you are requesting this information on behalf of a body corporate which is
incorporated in New Zealand or which has a place of business in New Zealand.
We are also interested in the purpose of this request, and whether it is for academic or research
purposes. This additional context may enable us to provide you with further information or engage with
you in a way which assists you.
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to
extend the time we wil take to respond to your request. You can find the contact details for the
Ombudsman at: www.ombudsman.parliament.nz
If you would like to discuss the extension with Waka Kotahi, please contact us via email to
[NZTA request email].
Yours sincerely
James Sorensen
