OIA 21-22-17: NZ Story Board Meeting Minutes
Thank you for making a request to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) under the
Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act), received via FYI.org on 2 March 2022. You requested
the following information:
I noted you have a New Zealand Story Advisory Board…
Can you please provide the full board meeting minutes for the Board from January 2020 to
now.
We have understood your request to be exclusively asking for the meeting minutes of the New
Zealand Story Advisory Board. 11 documents come within scope of your request, please find
these attached.
Some information has been withheld under the following sections of the Act:
• s6(a): making that information available would be likely to prejudice the security or
defence of New Zealand or the international relations of the Government of New
Zealand;
• s9(2)(b)(ii): to protect information where the making available of the information would
be likely unreasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplied
or who is the subject of the information;
• s9(2)(f)(iv): to maintain the constitutional conventions for the time being which protect
the confidentiality of advice tendered by Ministers of the Crown and officials;
• s9(2)(g)(i): to maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the free and frank
expression of opinions by or between or to Ministers of the Crown or members of an
organisation or officers and employees of any department or organisation in the course
of their duty; and
• 9(2)(j): to enable a Minister of the Crown or any public service agency or organisation
holding the information to carry on, without prejudice or disadvantage, negotiations
(including commercial and industrial negotiations).
Due to the nature of meeting minutes being scribed at speed, it has since been found that
some information was recorded incorrectly at the time. Please note the following.
• In the document dated 19 June 2020, under
1.4 Board member activities, the word
‘media’ should be ‘immediate’ in the line “An international education recovery plan is
being delivered to the cabinet on Monday 22nd June, which focuses on 1) media
recovery and support for the industry…”
• In the document dated 30 April 2021, under
2.4 Board member activities, the name
‘Aho-Tini’ should be ‘Te Aratini’ in the line “It was also noted that TPK is involved in
Aho-Tini, an indigenous summit that focuses on economy…”

• In the document dated 17 September 2021, under
1.6 Board member activities, the
name should be Karl Johnstone, not Karl Wixon in the line “The Board noted the Expo
stories led by Karl Wixon and Workshop E have now been completed.”
