Official information request
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request to the New Zealand Security
Intelligence Service (NZSIS) of 28 February 2022, in which you ask the following:
What is the security status / designation of the WEF (World Economic Forum) by the
NZ SIS?
Response to your request
I have interpreted your question as asking whether the World Economic Forum is designated
as a terrorist entity. The Terrorism Suppression Act 2020 provides for a list of terrorist
entities to be established and maintained in New Zealand. The World Economic Forum,
which I understand is an international non-governmental and lobbying organisation, is not
on this list.
Roles and functions of the NZSIS
I thought it might be useful to explain more about the NZSIS’s roles and functions. Our role
is to keep New Zealand and New Zealanders safe and secure. Our priorities, called the
National Security and Intelligence Priorities (NSIPs) are set by the New Zealand Government.
A list of current NSIPS can be found on the dpmc.govt.nz website, and include counter-
terrorism, foreign interference, global economy, emerging technology, malicious cyber
activity, regional stability, and space.
