Dear Scott
Official Information Act request for a list of National Assessments Committee reports
between years 2007 and 2015
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request transferred to the
Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet on 28 March 2022. You requested:
“I would like to make a request for a list of all reports produced by the NZSIS and
issued through the National Assessments Committee during the years 2007 to 2015.
Reports that were the joint products of NZSIS and another agency can be
excluded.”
Reports produced for the National Assessments Committee (NAC) are issued under the
authority of the Director of the National Assessments Bureau as the Chair of NAC. As
mentioned to you in my letter of 11 March 2022, the titles and dates of reports prepared for
NAC contain information, which, if released would be likely to prejudice the international
relations and national security of New Zealand. Therefore, the information within scope of
your request is withheld in full under the following sections of the Act:
• section 6(a) as the making available of the information would be likely
“to prejudice
the security or defence of New Zealand or the international relations of the
Government of New Zealand;” and
• section 6(b)(i) as the making available of the information would be likely
“to prejudice
the entrusting of information to the Government of New Zealand on a basis of
confidence by the Government of any other country or any agency of such a
Government.”
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under
section 28(3) of the Act.
We do not intend to publish this response on the Department of the Prime Minister and
Cabinet’s website.
Yours sincerely
p.p
