[FYI request #18908 email]
Dear Lisa
Request for information
I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 17 March 2022 for
information relating to the protests at Parliament. You requested:
As a resident of New Zealand I request al internal communications via email,
meeting minutes, etc that relate to the Wellington Freedom protest between 22
February 2022 and 11 March 2022.
This should include, but not be limited to, all communications regarding
- ‘recruiting’ police to be in Wellington
- behaviour of protesters or police at the event
- opinions of protesters
- expectations of police behaviour while at protest
On 24 March, you refined your request to the following:
Can you please provide the requested communications for the period 23
February and 2 March 2022 inclusive
On 30 March you were advised that, due to the volume of communications within scope
of your amended request it was likely Police would have to refuse your request if it was
not further refined.
As of 12 April 2022, Police has not received any further correspondence from you. Your
request is therefore refused under s 18(f) of the OIA, as the information cannot be made
available without substantial collation or research.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are not satisfied
with the response to your request. Information about how to make a complaint is available
at:
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
Yours sincerely
David Greig
