[FYI request #19142 email]
Dear Phil
Thank you for your Official Information Act request, received on 20 April 2022. You
requested:
I am wanting the 10 emails between Trevor Mallard and Grant Robertson in
which they discuss the use of the sprinklers on parliament grounds to deter the
protesters camping there, In particular I want the responses from Grant
Robertson finance minister, also anyone who was copied into the conversation,
Replys to the said emails are also requested
My discussions with the Speaker of the House Rt Hon Trevor Mallard regarding the
Parliamentary protest earlier this year were undertaken in my capacity as the Member of
Parliament for Wellington Central, and not in a Ministerial capacity.
I can also say that in my capacity as Member of Parliament for Wellington Central, I did
not send emails to the Speaker regarding this matter.
Parliamentary Services, which provides support to Members of Parliament, and
Members of Parliament are not subject to the Official Information Act 1982. As such, any
discussions between the Speaker of the House and me as Wellington Central MP do not
fall under the OIA, as specified in section 2(1) of the Act.
Yours sincerely
Hon Grant Robertson
Minister of Finance
