[FYI request #19162 email] Dear Nic
Thank you for your email of 19 April 2022 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment requesting the
following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
“Are you able to give a breakdown by year of the number of funding applications that have been submitted
in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) over the last three financial years to the Major Events Fund.
Does your funding platform currently allow for video-based submissions to be assessed, and if not what is
the timeline for this?”
We can confirm that MBIE has had no event applications over the last three financial years that were submitted
using New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) to the Major Events Fund (inclusive of the Creative and Cultural Incubator
Fund). This also holds true for applications submitted in the period beyond the last three financial years.
New Zealand Major Events can field and receive applications that use NZSL. The Major Events Fund uses a written
application form and requires no interview or face-to-face during the application process. The Creative and Cultural
Incubator Fund also uses a written application form but welcomes digital files alongside written submissions.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how
to make a complaint is available a
t www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely,
Lisa Gibson
