Dear Andrew Li
Official Information Act request for communications between the Prime Minister
and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (the Ministry) and Minister Mahuta
regarding statements regarding Palestine
Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act),
received on 18 May 2022. You requested:
“I am seeking all communications between the office of the Prime Minister, with
MFAT and Nanaia Mahuta, relating to the ongoing zionist attacks against the
legitimate population of Palestine, and relating to how statements by the Ardern
government in regards the zionist entity and its continuing attacks on the native
Palestinian population should be handled.”
I believe that the request for correspondence between the Ministry and the
Prime Minister is more closely connected to the functions of the Ministry, and
correspondence between the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Hon Nanaia Mahuta is more closely connected with her Office.
Accordingly, I have decided under section 14(b)(ii) of the Act to transfer your request to
the Ministry and Minister Mahuta’s Office respectively for response.
Both Ministry and Minister have the usual timeframes under the Act from receipt of this
transfer to make a decision on your request.
Yours sincerely
Sarah Corbett
