Dear Andrew
Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 24 May 2022, in which
you asked for information regarding William Gannin Ormsby. You requested the following:
In 2003, valid charges against a Wil iam Gannin Ormsby for sexual violation and
indecent assault, and assault with intent to commit sexual violation against a
woman were dropped because of undue influence by his then partner, now wife
Nanaia Mahuta.
Evidence suggests that these crimes and their coverup have been used by
hostile foreign forces to blackmail Ms. Mahuta into supporting human rights
violations, which makes this a matter very much in the public interest to report on.
In the interests of reporting to protect the public from the ongoing blackmail
against Ms. Mahuta, I am requesting all documents held by Police in regards the
crimes committed by Mr. Ormsby.
Your request is refused pursuant to s9(2)(a) of the OIA, to protect the privacy of natural
persons, including that of deceased natural persons.
Police considers the interests requiring protection by withholding the information are not
outweighed by any public interest in release of the information.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are not satisfied
with the response to your request. Information about how to make a complaint is available
at:
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
Yours sincerely
