Dear Rose
Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email
of 25 May 2022 requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Can you please provide a Price List of installing the following Speed Preventing Measures that
NZTA pay for:
Speed Bumps (per bump)
Speed Camera
Zebra Crossings
I have numbered each part of your request for convenience and will answer each question in turn.
1. Price List of installing the following Speed Preventing Measures that NZTA pay for:
Speed bumps (per bump), Zebra crossings
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency does not hold a price list of speed humps and zebra crossings.
Infrastructure such as speed humps and zebra crossings vary significantly because the cost varies
depending on the site and the scale of the project. For example, the price for a raised zebra crossing
can vary depending on the stormwater infrastructure, width of the road, materials used, kerb buildouts,
road widths, lights, etc.
In addition, the costs for speed reduction infrastructure vary depending on the temporary traffic
management required for installation. The individual costs therefore cannot be extracted from the
overall project costs.
2. Price List of installing the following Speed Preventing Measures that NZTA pay for:
Speed Camera
Waka Kotahi does not hold discrete pricing information on the installation of speed cameras. In the
National Land Transport Programme 2021-24, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is investing $1.24
billion in the Road Safety Partnership Programme to provide road policing activities. Included in this
funding is the NZ Police’s enforcement of speed limits to deter speeding through the owning and
operating of speed cameras.
If you would like to discuss this reply with Waka Kotahi or make a more specific request regarding the
installation of safety infrastructure, please contact the Ministerial Services team by email to
[NZTA request email].
Yours sincerely
