Dear Polly Adams
Official Information Act request relating to number of Health Transition Unit staff
employed by Ernst Young and number in leadership positions
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request received on 27 May 2022.
You requested:
1) the number of people supporting the health system Transition Unit who are
employed by EY, and
2) how many of them are in leadership and management roles in the Transition Unit.
The Health and Disability System Review Transition Unit (the Unit) is made up of a mixture of
public servants and contractors. It continues to deliver high-quality results to support the
Government’s health reform programme, transforming the future shape of the health system.
Since the establishment of the interim entities, interim Health NZ and interim Māori Health
Authority, and the transfer of functions and staff, the Unit has reduced significantly in size.
As at 31 May 2022, the head count of the Unit was 38 people. The Unit consists of a mix of
both full time and part time secondees, contractors and fixed term employees. Of the 18
current contractors, nine are from Ernst & Young.
Three of the nine people from Ernst & Young are in management roles: the Director Health
and Disability Review Transition Unit, the Operations Director, and a Senior Manager.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision under
section 28(3) of the Act.
We do not intend to publish this response on the Department of the Prime Minister and
Cabinet’s website.
Yours sincerely
