Thank you for your email of 13 June 2022 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
“… the unplanned and gross staff turnover rate for Immigration New Zealand
[INZ] down each of the 5 branch level for the financial years 2020 and 2021.”
Our response to your request is outlined below.
Response Please find attached a spreadsheet containing the unplanned (referred to as “core turnover” in the
spreadsheet) and gross staff turnover rates for INZ, which is a business group housed within MBIE.
For reference, the first tab of the spreadsheet explains the definitions of the different types of turnover
you have requested – based on Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission’s website; the second tab
contains the data you requested. The information provided for each financial year is accurate as at 30
June 2020 and 30 June 2021 respectively.
Please note that there are nine INZ branches in total, rather than five. Please also note that our turnover
figures do not include offshore staff; the information provided relates only to employees based in New
Zealand.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information
about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802
602.
