Dear Heidi
Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email of 16 June 2022 requesting a copy of the safety audits of the current Penlink
design under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
I appreciate you taking the time to discuss your interest in this matter with James Hughes, Lead Safety
Advisor, Programme and Standards on 2 August 2022, and for your interest in how Waka Kotahi NZ
Transport Agency business case processes cater to multimodal requirements and consider the
requirements of vulnerable users.
We agree with the principal that facilities for vulnerable users and public transport should be
embedded as early as possible in the project life cycle to ensure that the needs of all users are
reflected and appropriately weighted in the project scope.
As was noted by James, the scope, designation and consent conditions for Penlink were developed by
Auckland Transport prior to Waka Kotahi taking over delivery of the project. As such, James will
confirm the availability of project documentation relevant to your interests and raise the matter with our
multi-modal planning specialists.
I understand that following your discussion, you are comfortable withdrawing your request for safety
audits at this time and will await further advice from James on what information more relevant to your
interests is available.
James expects to provide you an update on the progress of the above by the end of August 2022.
However, if you have any further questions in the meantime, or would like to discuss this further,
please contact James by email to [email address].
Yours sincerely
Josh Driscoll
