Request for information 2022-090
I refer to your request for information dated 1 July 2022, which was received by Greater Wellington
Regional Council (Greater Wellington) on 1 July 2022. You have requested the fol owing:
“Please provide actual costs on implementing Snapper on the Johnsonvil e Line.
Also please provide cost estimates for implementing Snapper on all other train lines in the
wel ington network.”
Greater Wel ington’s response follows:
The cost of implementing Snapper on Rail on the Johnsonville line was $3.07 million. Many of these
costs, such as those incurred to undertake civil works or removing paper tickets from the network,
wil not need to be reincurred when Greater Wel ington transitions to the National Ticketing
Solution.
The cost of implementing Snapper on Rail on the rest of the network is estimated to be $7.9 million.
Again, many of these costs, such as those incurred to undertake civil works or removing paper tickets
from the network, wil not need to be reincurred when Greater Wel ington transitions to the National
Ticketing Solution.
If you have any concerns with the decision(s) referred to in this letter, you have the right to request
an investigation and review by the Ombudsman under section 27(3) of the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act 1987.
