[IN CONFIDENCE RELEASE EXTERNAL]
9 August 2022
Simon Green
[FYI request #19925 email]
Dear Mr Green
Thank you for your request made under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA), received
on 15 July 2022. You requested the following:
•
copies of all policies and procedures detailing the methods by which IRD staff are
allocated to handle OIA requests from Sovereign Citizens, and
•
what support is available to them …
Generally, the business area of Inland Revenue that holds the information requested is
responsible for locating the information, collating it, and formulating a response. Inland
Revenue’s approach to each request, the people who need to be involved, as well as any
support required, is decided on a case-by case basis. Support for staff is provided by
subject matter experts, team leads and managers, as necessary.
There are no specific policies and procedures detailing the methods by which Inland
Revenue staff are allocated to handle OIA requests from “Sovereign Citizens”. I have
therefore decided to refuse your request under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the information
requested does not exist.
Right of review
If you disagree with my decision on your OIA request, you can ask an Inland Revenue
review officer to review my decision. To ask for an internal review, please email the
Commissioner of Inland Revenue at:
[email address]. Alternatively, under section 28(3) of the OIA, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman
to investigate and review my decision. You can contact the office of the Ombudsman by
email at:
[email address].
Thank you again for your request.
Yours sincerely
Josh Green
