I refer to your Official Information Act request dated 19 July 2022, which requests information in
relation to entry to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) programme via the
Graduate category.
We note that we contacted you 20 July 2022 to clarify which years of entry to the MB ChB
programme you were interested in receiving the information for. Your response of 20 July 2022
confirming that you were interested in the information for those entering the MB ChB programme in
2020 and 2021.
Please see below our responses to each of your questions.
1. Number of 2020 and 2021 Graduate General applicants for MB ChB
The number of applicants to the 2020 MB ChB programme via the Graduate General category is 262.
The number of applicants to the 2021 MB ChB programme via the Graduate General category is 287.
2. Number of 2020 and 2021 Graduate Rural applicants for MB ChB
The number of applicants to the 2020 MB ChB programme via the Graduate Rural sub-category is 39.
The number of applicants to the 2021 MB ChB programme via the Graduate Rural sub-category is 40.
3. Number of successful 2020 and 2021 Graduate General applicants for MB ChB
The number of applicants to receive offers to enter the 2020 MB ChB programme via the Graduate
General category is 48. Of these applicants, 41 accepted their offer to enter the programme.
The number of applicants to receive offers to enter the 2021 MB ChB programme via the Graduate
General category is 50. Of these applicants, 35 accepted their offer to enter the programme.
4. Number of successful 2020 and 2021 Graduate Rural applicants for MB ChB
The number of applicants to receive offers to enter the 2020 MB ChB programme via the Graduate
Rural sub-category is 9. Of these applicants, 7 accepted their offer to enter the programme.
The number of applicants to receive offers to enter the 2021 MB ChB programme via the Graduate
Rural sub-category is 11. All of these applicants accepted their offer to enter the programme.
5. Lowest 2020 and 2021 Graduate General GPA that received a first round offer for MB
ChB
The minimum GPA to receive a first-round offer to enter the 2020 MB ChB programme via the
Graduate General category is 8.70.
The minimum GPA to receive a first-round offer to enter the 2021 MB ChB programme via the
Graduate General category is 8.90.
6. Lowest 2020 and 2021 Graduate Rural GPA that received a first round offer for MB ChB
The minimum GPA to receive a first-round offer to enter the 2020 MB ChB programme via the
Graduate Rural sub-category is 7.75.
The minimum GPA to receive a first-round offer to enter the 2021 MB ChB programme via the
Graduate Rural sub-category is 7.92.
7. Lowest 2020 and 2021 Graduate General GPA that received an offer from the waitlist for
MB ChB
The minimum GPA to receive an offer from the waitlist to enter the 2020 MB ChB programme via
the Graduate General category is 8.13.
The minimum GPA to receive an offer from the waitlist to enter the 2021 MB ChB programme via
the Graduate General category is 8.50.
8. Lowest 2020 and 2021 Graduate Rural GPA that received an offer from the waitlist for
MB ChB
In 2020 and 2021, there was no waitlist for applicants to the MB ChB programme via the Graduate
Rural sub-category.
9. What the UCAT cutoff was for 2020 and 2021 MB ChB applicants
The MB ChB UCAT selection criteria is set annually by the University’s Medical Admissions
Committee. For entry to the 2020 and 2021 MB ChB programme, the thresholds were as follows:
• Verbal Reasoning: threshold set at the 20th percentile (scores in the bottom 20% are
declined)
• Situational Judgement: threshold set at the 10th percentile (scores in the bottom 10% are
declined)
• Scores for Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning were not
considered.
