Tēnā koe John Luke
I refer to your email 15 August 2022 in which you requested the following under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA):
I noted, "The process for public expression of interest (EOI) in PACDAC membership
for the 2022-2025 term consisted of a call for nominations via the MFAT website and
across MFAT’s social media channels."
Can you please provide total number of applicants you have received, and total
number of applicants that are re-standing (if any). how many you have shortlist so
far and have you received any recommendations from non-public expression of
interest process, e.g. any from minister office or any other ministry, if you have,
please provide the name of agency you have received the nomination from e.g. Te
Puni Kōkiri.
Where is the current process of this expression of interest (EOI) at? when do you
expect to announce the membership for the 2022-2025 term.
Thank you for your follow up questions regarding our previous OIA response to you on
8 August 2022 (reference OIA 28181).
A new Public Advisory Committee on Disarmament and Arms Control (PACDAC) was appointed
in December 2021 for the 2022-2024 term. The Expression Of Interest (EOI) process closed late
last year and the appointments were announced via Twitter by the Minister for Disarmament
and Arms Control, Hon Phil Twyford, on 22 December 2021. We provided a link to Minister
Twyford’s announcement in our previous response to you (reference OIA 28181).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (the Ministry) is currently seeking to appoint one new
member for the PACDAC, and the announcement of the new member is forthcoming. This
became necessary after one of the members appointed in December 2021 vacated their position
in May 2022. The Ministry ran a recent EOI process in relation to this vacant position, which
closed on 29 July 2022. The appointment process is still under way, with an announcement
expected in late September or early October via Minister Twyford’s Twitter account.
Please note that we may publish this letter (with your personal details redacted) on the
Ministry’s website.
