Thank you for your email of 11 November 2022 to Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children
(Oranga Tamariki), requesting the following information under the Of icial Information Act
1982 (the Act):

That isn't the information that I requested. Of the 1,937 that have been vaccinated.
How many have passed away anytime since. I understand there is at least one
with the 7 year old that died in Wairoa. Please provide the information I have
requested. Please separate these out into:

Died - Medical event or Other
Of the 1,937 children and young people in Oranga Tamariki care that have been
vaccinated, one child or young person has passed away. While we cannot comment on
the circumstances around this death in any detail, we can confirm deaths of children in
care most commonly relate to health and disability issues. We can further confirm this
death was unrelated to the vaccination. We can also confirm that this is not the tamaiti
you refer to in your request who died in Wairoa. The death of any tamaiti is a tragedy and,
where a tamaiti in care dies, we are dedicated to understanding what lessons can be
learned to prevent it happening again.
Oranga Tamariki intends to make the information contained in this letter available to the
wider public shortly. We wil do this by publishing this letter on our website. Your personal
details wil be deleted and we wil not publish any information that would identify you as
the person who requested the information.
