Dear John
Response to your official information request
Thank you for your official information request received on 26 August 2022.
You requested information on the number of expressions of interests LINZ received for
appointments to the Cadastral Surveyors Licensing Board and the Valuers Registration
Board, and how many of these were from other government agencies’ nomination
databases and how many were directly from the public. You also asked where expressions
of interest were advertised, aside from LINZ’s website.
LINZ’s response to this request is as below.
Cadastral Surveyors Licensing Board
1. How many expressions of interests LINZ received for appointments to the Cadastral
Surveyors Licensing Board (CSLB)?
LINZ received eight applications for appointments to the seven positions on CSLB
(all current members’ terms expire on 19 December 2022).
2. How many of these were from other government agencies’ nomination databases
and how many were directly from the public?
One application was received directly from the candidate themselves and one
candidate was nominated for appointment by the Ministry of Ethnic Communities.
Four of the candidates have been nominated for appointment by Survey and
Spatial New Zealand (SSNZ), and two of the candidates have been nominated by
the Institute of Cadastral Surveying Incorporated (ICS) as required under section
13(2)(a)(ii) of the Cadastral Survey Act 2002.
The availability of these board positions was also conveyed to the Ministry for
Pacific Peoples, Te Puni Kōkiri, the Ministry for Women, and the Office for
Disability Issues. No applications were received from these ministries or through
any other government nomination databases.

3. Where expressions of interest were advertised, aside from LINZ’s website?
In addition to the LINZ website, the board positions were advertised by SSNZ and
ICS in their newsletter sent out to members.
Valuers Registration Board
4. How many expressions of interests LINZ received for appointments to the Valuers
Registration Board (VRB)?
LINZ received three applications for appointments to the two positions on VRB
(terms of two of the four current members expire on 22 December 2022).
5. How many of these were from other government agencies’ nomination databases vs
directly from the public?
Al three applications were received directly from the candidates themselves. One
of these candidates has been nominated for appointment by the New Zealand
Institute of Valuers (NZIV) as required under section 3(2)(b) of the Valuers Act
1948.
The availability of these board positions was conveyed to the Ministry for Ethnic
Communities, the Ministry for Pacific Peoples, Te Puni Kōkiri, the Ministry for
Women, and the Office for Disability Issues. No applications were received from
these ministries or through any other government nomination databases.
6. Where expressions of interest were advertised, aside from LINZ’s website?
In addition to the LINZ website, the board positions were advertised by NZIV in
their newsletter. The link is provided here –
