Thank you for your email of 1 September 2022 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
1. A copy of the policies and processes regarding the granting of managed isolation fee waivers
under special circumstances, specifically information relating to applications under compassionate
grounds.
2. The scenarios where fee waivers have been granted under compassionate grounds with details of
different categories (Residency Status) and basis of waivers categories (Like sickness of family
member, medical treatment etc)
3. The number of fee waivers that have been applied for under compassionate grounds with
categories as number 2.
4. The number of fee waivers that have been granted under compassionate grounds with categories
as number 2.
Question 1
Please find attached a copy of the
MIQ Fee Waiver Guidelines. Some material has been withheld pursuant
to section 9(2)(g)(ii) of the Act to maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the protection
of officers and employees from improper pressure or harassment.
In terms of section 9 of the Act, I do not consider that the withholding of this information is outweighed
by public interest considerations in making the information available.
Questions 2 – 4
Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) fee waivers are granted under the categories
Special
Circumstances, Undue Hardship or both. Applications are not broken down any further and cannot be
reported on in this manner without looking at each individual file.
Therefore, we are refusing this part of your request pursuant to section 18(f) of the Act, as the material
you have requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.
However, we can give you the fol owing breakdown of fee waiver applications received by MIQ as at
11 September 2022.
