Your Official Information Act request, reference H2022011920:
Thank you for your email of 5 September 2022 requesting information relating to measles data.
As part of the health and disability system reforms, as of 1 July 2022 the functions previously under
the Manatū Hauora (Ministry of Health) Data and Digital directorate have transferred to Te Whatu
Ora Health New Zealand (Te Whatu Ora). As the matters you have raised now fal under the functions
of Te Whatu Ora, our agency wil respond to your request which has been considered under the
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). You requested the fol owing:
“The link for downloading data on measles cases, deaths, hospitalisations, etc. Please also provide
where to find the measles vaccination status of the measles cases too.”
Information on the number of measle cases, vaccination status and hospitalizations are available on the
Institute of Environmental Science and Research’s (ESR’s) website below:

Please note as there have been no confirmed cases of measles reported since February 2020, the weekly
measles reports have been discontinued.
There were no deaths due to measles in New Zealand from 1996 to 2018. There were 8 deaths from 1991
to 1995, 6 of which occurred in 1991. The mortality database does not record the vaccination status of
deceased people.
