Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email dated 16 September 2022 requesting information in relation to the Auckland
System Management (ASM) Traffic Response Units under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). I
wil set out each of your questions and my responses below.
1. …upgrades/updates made to the vehicles e.g. replacing the message board with a new one
from a different manufacturer, or replacing the orange lighting, etc.
ASM constantly reviews and updates features and equipment on its Traffic Response Units. I have
provided a list of changes below since 2020:
• Horn – Electronic operated via remote control housing (RCH) “Horn” button and a steering
wheel button
• Power Management System – inbuilt timer with auto low voltage cut out
• Wade Anti-Theft Ignition System (ATIS), al ows engine and system run on, vehicle to be
locked and alarmed
• Alarm system – fitted by Toyota
• Wade Emergency Light Controller
• RCH mounted on dash with sun visor. Public address (PA) microphone
• Primary(Quad flash) and Secondary(Single Flash) alternating light patterns
• 100w speaker for PA microphone and Horn
• Lightbar with Variable Message Sign (VMS)
o Legion all amber light bar
o LEDs - all front
o LEDs - all rear
o Auto Dimming – takes ambient light level reading from inside light bar and auto dims
bar only
o Forward Facing Takedown LEDs – in bar
o Left-hand side and right-hand side al ey LEDs – in bar
o VMS (DMD – Digital Message Display – Code 3) – Preloaded / Customizable
messages. – Fixed behind the bar
• Perimeter Lighting
o Lower front windscreen LEDs x 2
o Upper rear windscreen LEDs x 2
o Rear taillight LEDs / Rear bumper LEDs x 2
o Front bumper LEDs x 2 - Fitted around push bar design, wide angle for side visibility
o LEDs under cargo lid x 2 – not on a switch, 150 degree lights with built-in puddle light
facing down for additional lighting
o Work lights under cargo lid - 1 off high powered S16 scene light, facing in on contact
switch
• (72537BL – Narva) Factory horn upgraded to small air horn type
• Reverse Lights x 2, additional – ADR compliant – (RL180RLED – LED 9-33V Reverse Lamp –
Narva)
• Refrigerator – 12v – 40L (CFX3 45 - Dometic) powered on Ignition
• LED Auxiliary Driving Lights
• 12v sockets x 3 - USB outlets in cabin for charging
• Fitment of radio and antenna
• CCTV
• Cargo Deck storage to suit required gear, Aluminium/Carpet with pul out centre tray
• Tailgate inside soft cover – Ply with marine grade carpet, to match rear build
• 1200w Inverter – fitted behind driver’s seat
• Soft Struts fitted to rear tail gate, and
• Dash Cam.
2. I’m also requesting an updated list of information regarding the lights fitted to the vehicles,
including part names, numbers, and manufacturer.
Waka Kotahi does not hold further information on the lighting instal ed to the vehicle beyond what I
have provided in my response above. This information is likely to be held by the equipment instal er
who is not subject to the Act. I am therefore refusing this part of your request under section 18(g)(i) of
the Act, as the information requested is not held by the department or venture or Minister of the Crown
or organisation and the person dealing with the request has no grounds for believing that the
information is either held by another department (for itself and for a departmental agency hosted by it
or an interdepartmental executive board serviced by it) or interdepartmental venture or Minister of the
Crown or organisation, or by a local authority.
