Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 27 September 2022. I
apologise for the delay in providing a reply. Responses to your questions are set out below.
ONE: Al situation reports and intel igence summaries produced by Police National
Headquarters for Operations Deans and Unity, dated 15 March to 3 April 2019.
As you may be aware, a Coronial Inquiry is under way in relation to the 15 March 2019
Christchurch masjidain attack. The type of information within scope of your request has been
identified by the Office of the Coroner as relevant to the issues for the Inquiry and is therefore
subject to stringent controls on disclosure and that is likely to continue.
Further information about the Inquiry is available at:
https://coronialservices.justice.govt.nz/masjid-attacks-coronial-process/
This part of your request has therefore been refused under section 6(c) of the OIA on the
grounds that making the information available at this time would be likely to prejudice the
maintenance of the law, including the prevention, investigation, and detection of offences.
TWO: Al other documents produced by Police and submitted to the Operations Deans
and Unity ODESC meetings, dated 15 March and 3 April 2019.
Verbal updates were provided at these meetings, so no documents were submitted by Police.
This part of your request is therefore reused under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the documents
do not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate them, cannot be found.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are not satisfied with the
response to your request. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
Yours sincerely
