[FYI request #20706 email] Tēnā koe Barry
Thank you for your email of 30 September 2022 to the Ministry of Justice requesting
information about John Sinclair. The following parts of your request were transferred to the
Department of Corrections – Ara Poutama Aotearoa, on 3 October 2022, in accordance with
section 14 of the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA):
I'd like to know all the costs incurred by government for John Sinclair to date, broken
down into categories where possible
-
Jail costs (costs associated with him being in jail)
-
Bail/Home Detention costs (costs associated with monitoring and check-ups)
Corrections’ Annual Report contains a summary that includes a breakdown of Corrections’
average daily cost of each sentence and order, including remand and sentenced prisoners
and people on home detention. Corrections does not record the costs incurred for
managing specific individuals, therefore your request for
jail and
bail/home detention costs
incurred for John Sinclair to date is refused under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the document
alleged to contain the information requested does not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to
locate it, cannot be found.
In accordance with section 18B of the OIA, we have considered whether consulting with you
would enable the request to be made in a form that would remove the reason for refusal.
We do not consider this would enable the request to be granted in this instance.
