[FYI request #20901 email]
Dear Mark
Thank you for your email of 18 October 2022 requesting the fol owing information under the
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
1. Please advise on how many days in the last six months you have used and paid for
public transport.
2. Please advise what this mode of public transport was, and in what city.
Please do not include journeys you did not personal y pay for (for example, publicity or
policy announcements regarding public transport).
Please do not include any lunch-time only use of Wel ington buses.
I am refusing your request for these documents under section 18(e) of the Act as I do not hold
any such information in my capacity as Minister.
However, while this information is not Official Information for the purposes of the Act, I am
always keen to promote the use of public transport. My use of public transport is nearly always
at my own expense and mainly occurs in Auckland. My AT Hop Online Account only goes
back 5 months, and shows I have taken 22 bus journeys in that time. This is in addition to bus
journeys in Wel ington and Christchurch I have taken in that period, for which I do not have
online records.
Public transport is a great way of getting around and our government is putting record
investment into better services, reduced fares, and long overdue maintenance. While public
transport won’t work for everyone’s journeys every time, I encourage you to give it a go where
convenient.
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision
to refuse your request. The contact details for the Ombudsman can be located at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
Yours sincerely
Hon Michael Wood
Minister of Transport
