Thank you for your Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act) request of 08 November 2022 for
information relating to documentation for vaccines in school for 2023 Specifically:
“Please confirm or provide documentation for all approved vaccination programs planned within
any education setting (for example preschools, primary schools, intermediate schools, high
schools) for the 2023 calendar year covering children of all ages.
Please confirm or provide documentation for all vaccination programs purposed within any
education setting (for example preschools, primary schools, intermediate schools, high
schools) for the 2023 calendar year covering children of all ages.”
The only approved vaccination programmes which will continue to operate in an education setting
for the 2023 calendar year is the delivery of the tetanus, diptheria & pertussis (Tdap also known as
Boostrix) vaccine and the human papil omavirus vaccines (HPV) vaccine to students in Year 7 and
Year 8 in participating schools. The Tdap vaccine protects against diphtheria, tetanus & pertussis
and the HPV vaccine protects against types of HPV that can cause cancer. Districts are
responsible for the delivery model for these vaccines, which may include delivery through school-
based programmes, primary care, or other local health service providers.

In regard to your second part of the request, Te Whatu Ora has interpreted this as referring to
proposed programmes, to which there are none under consideration by Te Whatu Ora. Therefore,
that part of your request is declined under section 18 (e) of the Act, on the basis that the
information requested does not exist.
