Response to your request for official information
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to Manatū Hauora
(the Ministry of Health) on 5 November 2022 for information regarding vacancies on health
sector ministerially appointed boards or committees. You asked for:
“…an update information of my previous request, my original questions are:
A list of vacancy (ministerial appointment only, e.g. board member, Lay member, Trustee
etc) that the nomination period has been closed but still under consideration by the MoH
or relevant Minister. In your list, can you please include the date that vacancy been
advertised and when the vacancy been closed as well. Also, if any are still under
consideration, please kindly provide how many applications you have received for these
positions.”
Manatū Hauora supports responsible ministers and the Governor-General to make
appointments to over 500 statutory health roles. We also undertake a tailored approach for each
recruitment depending on each role’s varying nature and requirements. Our general
appointments process incorporates best practice guidance where possible and includes the
following steps:
• identifying vacancies, followed by advertising and/or seeking nominations
• assessment of candidates and preparation of advice for ministers
• consideration and selection of candidates by the appointing Minister
• completion of due diligence checks
• consideration and noting of selected candidates by the Cabinet Appointments and Honours
Committee (APH)
• appointment by letter from the appointing Minister with public notification by
New Zealand
Gazette notice or a notice to the House.
The table on the following page lists the vacancies advertised from 21 November 2021 (the date
of your previous request) to 10 October 2022 that are still active.
