Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 request of 28 November 2022, in which you asked:
1.
Numbers of total Sworn Officers on 31st December 2016 serving in the NZ Police force. Total number of
resignations of Sworn Officers in the same year and total number of new recruits sworn in and serving in
the same year.
2.
Numbers of total Sworn Officers on 31st December 2017 serving in the NZ Police force. Total number of
resignations of Sworn Officers in the same year and total number of new recruits sworn in and serving in
the same year.
3.
Numbers of total Sworn Officers on 31st December 2018 serving in the NZ Police force. Total number of
resignations of Sworn Officers in the same year and total number of new recruits sworn in and serving in
the same year.
4.
Numbers of total Sworn Officers on 31st December 2019 serving in the NZ Police force. Total number of
resignations of Sworn Officers in the same year and total number of new recruits sworn in and serving in
the same year.
5.
Numbers of total Sworn Officers on 31st December 2020 serving in the NZ Police force. Total number of
resignations of Sworn Officers in the same year and total number of new recruits sworn in and serving in
the same year.
6.
Numbers of total Sworn Officers on 31st December 2021 serving in the NZ Police force. Total number of
resignations of Sworn Officers in the same year and total number of new recruits sworn in and serving in
the same year.
7.
Numbers of total Sworn Officers on 30th November 2022 serving in the NZ Police force. Total number of
resignations of Sworn Officers in the same year and total number of new recruits sworn in and serving in
the same year.
In response to these requests, the following table shows the headcounts of:

Active police officers employed by Police as at each calendar year-end 2016-2021, and as at 30
November 2022.
•
Police officer resignations by calendar year, and as at 30 November for 2022.
•
Recruit graduations by calendar year, and as at 30 November for 2022.
None of these numbers include Authorised Officers or Temporary Sworn staff (sometimes included in
constabulary numbers). They also do not include staff on leave without pay or on parental leave at the
time. Casual staff, contractors and non-sworn other Police employees are also not included.
