, you contacted Stats NZ requesting, under the Official Information
Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
I was wondering if you have data on who is making FOI requests in New Zealand
and what the most prominent subjects are regarding.
Your request for this information is refused under section 18(e) of the Act as this
information does not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be found.
Stats NZ does not hold data on who is making Official Information Act requests across
public service agencies and/or Crown Entities, nor do we hold data on the prominent
subjects/themes of the requests.
Public service agencies generally publish responses to official information requests,
where the information is believed to be of interest to the wider public and is suitable for
publication. If you are interested in the prominent subjects of Official Information Act
requests, you can visit the website of each agency you are interested in and search
through any published OIA responses.

Responses to Official Information Act

The Public Service Commission publishes information on the number of OIA requests
received and responded to by public service agencies and Crown Entities every six
months. These statistics cover:
• the number of requests completed by agencies in the six month reporting period
• compliance with legislative timeframes
• the publication of OIA responses
• OIA complaints referred by the Ombudsman to agencies, and those where a
deficiency was identified
• how many requests are extended, transferred or refused in full
• the average time to respond.
