Thank you for your email of 14 December 2022 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982, the following information:
[…] Please wil you supply me with an extract from the full NZBN Register of businesses that are
limited liability companies, who have as their trading name a name which includes the word
"limited". Please do not include those Companies where the trading as name is the same as the
full legal name. […]
Companies have the option to provide a trading name as part of their New Zealand Business Number
(NZBN) Primary Business Data. Trading name information is entered on the register by the company on a
voluntary basis and there is currently limited system validation (for example, checking spelling or use of
protected or restricted words) on trading names entered.
Attached is a list of all currently registered companies who have provided a trading name which includes
the word “Limited”, but excludes those companies where the trading name they have provided is the
same as the full legal company name.
Please note, where the trading name ends with “Limited” but that name is not an exact match to the
company’s legal name, the following reasons may apply:
- The trading name contains a spelling error/typo or is missing a word
- The trading name includes an abbreviation or acronym of the company’s legal name
- In some cases, the company may have changed its legal name, but has overlooked updating their
trading name as it is displayed on the register.
