I refer to your request for information dated 18 December 2022 made under the Official Information 
Act 1982 (the Act). You have requested information in relation to entry to the 2023 Bachelor of 
Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) programme at the University of Otago via the Graduate 
General category. 
 
Further to our email of 22 December 2022, please see below our response to the remaining parts of 
your request. 
 
3. The number of Graduate General category applicants to receive a first-round offer, and 
the lowest weighted GPA to receive a first-round offer 
 
The minimum weighted GPA score to meet the first-round cut-off for entry to the 2023 MB ChB 
programme via the Graduate General category was 9.20. 14 applicants were above this first-round 
cut-off. 
 
4. The total number of applicants waitlisted to enter the 2023 MB ChB programme via the 
Graduate General category 
 
The total number of applicants waitlisted for the 2023 MB ChB programme via the Graduate General 
category was 27. Please note that this figure excludes applicants who declined their offer to be on 
the waitlist. 
 
5. The lowest weighted GPA to receive an offer to be on the waitlist to the 2023 MB ChB 
programme via the Graduate General category 
 
The minimum weighted GPA score to receive an offer to be on the waitlist to the 2023 MB ChB 
programme via the Graduate General category was 8.43. 
 
6. The total number of Graduate General category applicants to be declined entry to the 
2023 MB ChB programme 
 
The total number of Graduate General category applicants who received a decline decision in 
relation to entry to the 2023 MB ChB programme was 230. Please note that this figure will include 
students who, during the application process, were found to be ineligible for entry under the 
Graduate category, as well as students who did not meet the required academic thresholds as 
outlined in the Guidelines for Admission.

via the Graduate General category 
 
The highest weighted GPA score to not receive an offer to enter the 2023 MB ChB programme via 
the Graduate General category was 8.65.
