Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 25 December 2022
regarding Auckland's Long Bay Regional Park reaching its capacity.
You requested:
•
Did police turn away or refuse public from visiting?
•
Under what/whose Authority was this?
•
What is the “capacity” of the area and how was the attendance measured against
the capacity.
Police did not “turn people away” as quoted in the Stuff article. Long Bay Park Rangers
assessed that the park had reached capacity to operate safely and, as per their
procedures, they began operating a 1 in 1 out system for vehicles entering at the main
gate to access the car park. Pedestrian access to the beach always remained open and
was not denied. No order was given by Police to stop access to the beach.
Information regarding capacity to Long Bay Beach is not held by Police. The information
can be obtained by contacting:

with the response to your request. Information about how to make a complaint is
