Thank you for your email on 9 February 2023, asking for the following which has
been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). You have
specifically requested:
“Numbers of emergency presentations for inflammatory heart disease (pericarditis
and myocarditis) in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. Please supply the data by age group
for each year.”
Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand collects national information about people visiting
Emergency Departments in New Zealand. Currently however, not all hospitals report this
information with diagnostic codes. There is work underway to ensure all hospitals report ED
information with diagnostic codes. However, this data is not yet complete. Therefore, your
request has been refused under section 18(g) of the Act.
