Thank you for your request for information dated 21 March 2023 about the maintenance 
schedule of the shared paths that sit alongside motorways, specifically beside SH20 
between Queenstown Road and Orpheus Drive.  
I am keen to understand who is responsible for maintaining both this shared path, 
and others such as the one alongside SH16 between Pt Chev and Avondale. 
I am also asking for what level of maintenance is required as part of this contract - 
how often should the path be swept, when is vegetation cut back, etc. 
AT are responsible for the maintenance of the shared path surface, sweeping (on an as 
required basis only), line marking, signage, lighting and stormwater management (above 
ground). 
Auckland Council are responsible for vegetation management, garden maintenance, graffiti 
removal and the removal of litter other than that from the shared path surface. 
Waka Kotahi are responsible for maintaining the fences between the motorway and the 
shared path as well as sound barriers.  
Should you believe that we have not dealt with your request appropriately, you are able to 
make a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman in accordance with section 27(3) of the 
LGOIMA Act and seek an investigation and review in regard to this matter.
