Your Official Information Act request OIA 2223 - 0554
I write regarding your Official Information Act (the Act) request, which was received by Te Tari
Taiwhenua, the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) on 2 February 2023.
You have requested:
1. Can you please provide me with all pay bands of DIA staff members?
Response to your request
The Department’s remuneration system is based on jobs being grouped into 'job families' and within
each job family into a 'job family band'. The job family is determined by type of job and market. The
job family band is determined by the outcome of the 'job evaluation' process.
Each band has a pay range with a midpoint. The range starts at 85% of the midpoint up to a maximum
of 115% of the midpoint.
The Department is also responsible for the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State
Care and Faith-Based Institutions which has a separate pay system.
Attached are the pay bands for the Department and the Royal Commission.
If you have any feedback or questions about the Department’s response, please let us know at
[email address]. If you have any concerns with the information in this response, you have a right to
request an investigation and review by the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. Information on
how to do this is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802.
