amongst there somewhere. Better yet to take me directly into myDegree and myAllocator without having to login separately each time (although I realise this may be impossible if they're
all hosted on different platforms).
2. On the Services page, the search categories need to be much more clear ‐ in particular, it took me a while to figure out what category Student Heath & Counselling was under. Mauri
Ora is likely the most commonly used (and obviously a hugely important) resource for students to be able to easily access. Please, please, please put them somewhere very prominent ‐
like at the top! Whereas currently they're under the last category, and 8th down the list once you finally select the correct category. They need to be much MUCH easier to visually find ‐
preferably somewhere at the top of the Services page. Even if trying to find them under subcategory (once you've made it to the correct category), they're listed under "Stay Well" which I
assumed was a fitness slogan. I get it's quirky, but it's also misleading ‐ please just have it under "Student Health & Counselling"
3. Again for the Services page, I would appreciate Disability Services also being much more prominent and easy to find.
4. The login page is a little confusing ‐ as pressing sign‐in takes you to an almost entirely blank white page with "Go to Portal" written in very small writing in the top left. When first taken
to the blank white page I actually initially assumed the website was down for maintenance at the moment, and it took me a few seconds to realise that there was something I could click
in the top left. Please make this larger and centered like when you login to blackboard.

4. The link to 'MyDegree' just takes me to the Uni website where I then have to click on the 'MyDegree' link there. I want to go straight into my actual 'MyDegree' page.
5. Similarly, when I go to 'Library', I don't want to have to log in there again ‐ can you ensure that once I log into Pūaha I've logged into everywhere else on the uni system? This goes for all
the other links you've put there at the top.
6. The 'Maps' function right at the top is a great idea.
7. There was no ability to edit my contact details. Editing for the personal details just took me to a page that said thanks for logging out ‐ assuming that's just an error while you set up this
platform.
8. It's useful to have everything in one place with a slightly more intuitive functionality than other parts of the website, but it still feels like there's something missing... the intro email
framed this platform as something great that I'd use regularly but I probably won't use it regularly. One thing that might actually substantively add to this platform is a function that allows
students to provide feedback to the uni about uni life generally, or perhaps more specific feedback that they might not feel they can provide direct to a lecturer, or feedback that they
might not know who to direct to. This could be anonymised, but it should importantly run like a ticket system where it's allocated to someone and the student receives updates and
meaningful contact.

‐ When viewing the timetable in a month view, it is very intuitive to switch months by clicking the calendar button, the appropriate month and then the day. Having left/right arrows to
cycle through the different months would be far better rather than going through all those steps.
‐ Having some integration with schools that have alternative communication systems (other than Blackboard), like ECS or Math and Stats (wikis) would make in more in line with the idea
of having everything in one place. e.g. ECS has an internal assessment calendar, so perhaps finding some way to integrate this into the calendar... An alternative would be even just linking
to the wikis if students are enrolled in a course that utilizes them.

When going onto your profile and wanting to edit the details on there it asks you to enter your user ID and pin. The instructions for that were: STUDENTS User ID = Student ID Number.

Initial PIN = your date of birth, e.g. 1 May 1983 = 010583. But when I followed those instructions (correctly with the proper user ID and pin) it came up with "Authorization Failure ‐ Invalid working
User ID or PIN." I cannot login to change my profile details.
On the other hand, I appreciate that on the profile there is a space for pronouns. Just wish I could go into my profile and change/put in my pronouns as I couldn't due to technological
problems.

I really liked the layout of the newly designed Puaha web tool. It is a whole lot more accessible for students than going through the regular website usually is. My mum is a senior student

at Massey university ‐ wellington and several times I have seen her use the student portal 'stream'. It really reminded me of that, a super easy and accessible student portal where all of
the student online needs are grouped together for greater convenience and it seems way less stressful than the current state of online learning for Vic students. This is especially topical
and useful given the current times with covid and whatnot.
I particularly like that the printing and student fees sections are in the same section as things such as timetable and blackboard, it means everything is easily grouped and available

It would be more convenient to shuffle through the dates if there was more than one way to change the dates you are looking at. Other than the calendar icon beside the month icon,

having arrows at the top of the calendar that continue the dates horizontally or vertically would make it easier. Colour coding what type of class it is seems useful. Instead of having to
click into each scheduled time to look at which classroom each lesson is in, it would be better to display it beside the code, eg, MATH132 followed by the classroom code. But it should
still display the classroom code when you click into it as well, as the mobile version, you cant see the texts in full anyways.
Icon designs are really cool!

I used this new portal for about a day, treating it as if it were always there and it was my go‐to VUW portal. I thought the student interface was super nice with the timetable and

announcements front and centre, however, I would suggest making the timetable larger and easier to navigate with potentially coloured calendar dates with important things such as
exams. I liked how my student photo was in the corner, it made it feel more like my portal . The new features allow navigation with ease to important things such as myallocator,
mydegree etc. (on another note, I wished myallocator didn t bug out on my computer!!). I think it would also be really cool to add some sort of feature that allowed the user to input due
dates for assignments, or perhaps an automated due date calendar? I can definitely see myself continuing to use this, and hoping it goes live soon as it s actually been a super useful tool
throughout the day. I find myself using the VUW tools more frequently rather than fiddling around with multiple different websites, or going to find them. I ve been intending to drop a
course for a while as I don t need it anymore, and the portals easy access to this encouraged me to do it. Hopefully this form stays up and I can keep updating it, but if not I ll find a way to

This is a personal opinion but I feel like the "News and Events" at the bottom of the website is a bit too large as if I am to go to the student portal it would to check my timetable or

Another suggestion is add an area where you can view all your upcoming assignments and work that need to be handed in, as going through every single different course to see what's
due and when it's due can be quite a pain.
Maybe add a widget calendar which has all the students' course assignments/tutorial work?

I'm not sure if this is for everyone or just me, but the colour coded timetable for labs is light blue. However it shows as black for me, not sure if this is intended or not.
Another bug I found was again with the timetable. When you click "Day", "Week", or "Month" it'll switch to it's respective thing. But, if you were to click on "Week" then "Day" really fast
you get a double up on the "Day" tab. And if you were to click "Month", "Week", and then "Day" really fast in a row, you'd get a triple up. I'll provide screenshots.
Oh.. I found out that you could receive the same bug if you were to just click on "Day", "Week", or "Month" multiple times really fast.

Firstly, the use of Te Reo was wonderful, but in some cases‐ quite small, such as "Taku hōtaka" located above "My Schedule". It should be loud and proud!!!! There is an ocean of room to
have it appearing right next to that fat "My Schedule" in the same size and colour, and this is reflected in all the other translations as well. Better yet, put the Te Reo first! Ka taea e koe!
BUT I do have to say that I loved the choice of Helve ca, which gets the big fat check of being an inclusive font and also just a really nice cosy one!
Secondly, I personally really liked the home/ welcome screen. Providing the calendar, announcements, and key dates, front and centre is super useful. There have been a number of
times that I go through Vic's main website to specifically find the key dates to compare with my schedule and it always frustrates me when I can't remember which exact tab to find it in. I
don't know whether this is a universal experience but I was definitely really happy to see it there! Also, having announcements right there from Blackboard blew my mind ‐ I know that
sounds sarcastic, but it really isn't, that is such a clever feature so that you can keep an eye on announcements without having to log into blackboard. If other students weren't as
obsessed with this home screen as me, I would suggest adding a feature where you can customise what you view on your home screen. Blackboard has a similar feature. I also found that I
was looking for the ability to expand the calendar as it was too small to see (without clicking on it) which classes were being shown on the days. For example: on a Monday (in week view),
the calander showed that I had two classes, but because they both started with the Course Code "BMSC3‐", there was no way to tell from a glance which classes they were. I could predict
this being a common frustration among students. Being able to stretch and shift the features of the home screen would be handy.
On the calendar: Loves a good calendar but it was very user friendly if you wanted to look at future dates. The drop‐down menu allowed me to see a future month but there was no
option to click in to view a specific day or week. Simple arrows to move to the next or previous day/week/month would be super useful! In addition, an extra cool feature would be to add
things to the calendar, such as extra study sessions or library bookings. I really like the idea of being able to export the calendar but when I tried to use the button, nothing happened...
Not sure if this is a bug or not yet an accessible feature but thought I would mention it.
I was not able to log in to the "workspace" so I am not sure what that is.
The "Profile" tab was blank. And you better remove those ID photos from the corner, holy moly. If I wanted to see my circular little face in the corner of the screen I would Skype my
mum. *Get* *it* *Gone* Sorry for using a pre‐2020 reference there, but the point stands. All other tabs seemed to be working, though it is a little annoying that you still have to log into
each individual service. Maybe this could be looked at to improve in the future...?
Overall, I really appreciated Pūaha and would see myself frequently using it in the future!

consuming effort. After 30 minutes of searching, I could find no such schedule. The only place with one was the link to my allocator, which is where I currently find my schedule. This
means that the site does not really help make a schedule easily accessible. If/when a schedule is made available, it should be on the site (doesn't take you to a link), and should be toggled
on the activity bar on the top of the home page.

I previously studied at Massey, where there are only two websites you regularly use. 'Stream', the blackboard equivalent, and a student portal which in one place held degree and course

Overall love the concept!
The symbols for library and career hub are quite similar so one could potentially be changed (library to a book perhaps). I would have all the icons available on the home screen rather
than having a 'see all' button unless there is a way to personalise which ones appear. The tool buttons that come up automatically on my Pūaha home seem quite undergraduate related ‐
it would be great if in future iterations you could personalise these for the ones that you use the most.
Overall I like the portal but I think it needs an explanation embedded into it (eg 'Pūaha holds all the handy links you'll need while studying at Te Herenga Waka. Each button will open a
new tab and take you to the relevant information for that topic').
Under study there's an option for 'View full details in myDegree' but this is an undergraduate tool. It reinforces that the university is very undergraduate focussed. I would remove that
button for postgraduate students in future iterations.
I really like the fact there's a services tab but the writing was a bit small (might just be my laptop). I also found that when clicking the contact button on the services page, the pop up was
initially blocked. You may want to warn students they may need to enable pop ups. I also found the search wasn't great (ie there's a tab called 'Course additions and withdrawals' but if I
search 'Course withdrawals' it doesn't come up). This requires students to know exactly what they are searching for and what its been titled on the site (which students never do when
they're searching!). The search should be modified to match to any relevant part of the title. I also note the 'contact us' button starts up an email but doesn't tell you where to find more
info. I would probably want to search in Pūaha to see where I can find the info and then email someone.

After looking through the portal, here are some suggestions I have/things I have found:
1. Every me I click on one of the icons (e.g. blackboard, MyDegree, MyAllocator, etc.), it takes me to a new window in which I have to log in. It would be great if it was possible to log
into the portal once, and be able to access everything from there without having to provide login info multiple times.
2. When I am in the Ako/Study page (h ps://puaha.wgtn.ac.nz/study), and try to add or drop a course, I am taken to the main student records page (please see a ached screenshot). It
would be great to be taken directly to the Add/Drop Courses page.
3. When I click on Tutorials/Labs, I am taken to this page, this may be a bug: h ps://www.wgtn.ac.nz/students/tools
4. The same as above happens when clicking on "view full details in MyDegree". I am taken to h ps://www.wgtn.ac.nz/students/tools
5. On the profile page (h ps://puaha.wgtn.ac.nz/studentprofile), there is a spelling error where it says "edit personal detail" rather than "edit personal details".

Overall the interface seems user‐friendly and straightforward, which makes navigation easy. I think the grouping of the tabs (Study, Services, Maps and Personal) is nice and intuitive,

while not subdividing it into into an endless amount of categories, ie not overcomplicating the interface or making it clunky.
It would be nice if the shortcuts on the home screen for "MyDegree" and "MyAllocator" were a direct link to their respective tools, rather than to the "Tools for Students" page. I
understand that this may still be in development, but in its current state it seems like an unnecessary middle step to get to MyDegree or MyAllocator, given also that the Tools for
Students page is very difficult to navigate compared to Pūaha.
I like how there is a dedicated page for services, as in the past it has been harder to find information on the uni's services in one place. I hope this will lead to a better student utilisation of
our services around campus. I'm almost inclined to say that scholarships could be better advertised on Pūaha, for example being their own dedicated tool, but at the same time it does
make sense that they are under the Services tab ‐ maybe they just need to be better advertised offline through uni, to make more students aware of the scholarship sign‐ups and
encourage more students to undertake applications.
Overall, I think this is a massive improvement over our current, admittedly clunky online university tools, and I really enjoy the amalgamation of our online resources into one central
point. With the exception of the MyDegree and MyAllocator comment above, which may be an easy fix, I'm enjoying using Pūaha. A tick in the box from me.

At a subject level the main resource is Blackboard, which I find clunky to use. Another problem is the quality of the material ( video recording, links to the library for readings etc) varies a
lot in quality, as it depends on the lecturers ability and motivation.
So in summary: the portal makes the online world more accessible, but the next challenge is to improve the quality of blackboard. Hopefully VUW can make online learning more
effective, efficient and enjoyable. The acid test would be if all universities made their online learning accessible to all, would VUW be website people would go to by choice as the lectures
& other learning material were superb.

First, I'd like to say that I love this idea. I think that it provides a useful tool for students that was lacking before.

On the home page of Puaha, there is a list of icons representing a list of tools (Blackboard, myDegree, myAllocator, Workspace etc). There is a 'view all' tool to see all of the options that
are available but this function is only there to expand the options by four tools (Career hub, Student records, software download, and passwords), one of which could be on display if the
'view all' tool was removed. Given the frequency with which Student Records and Passwords, in particular, are likely to be accessed I would recommend finding a way to display all the
tools and get rid of the view all function. It is unnecessary. I wouldn't decrease the size of the tool widgets for accessibility reasons, so perhaps enlarge them and create a second line of
widgets.
The layout of my profile is also disjointed. I don't have any ideas of how to improve on this.

Something that I like about Pūaha is that it has a lot of information and resources in one place, without the front page being too cluttered. As a new student, it took me quite a while to

find the "MyDegree" page and the place to drop courses on the old website. On Pūaha it is much easier and more efficient to access information about what courses I'm enrolled in.
A suggestion I have is that it would be nice to be able to click on one of the listed courses under the 'Current courses' list and see information specific to that course (eg. CHEM113) or be
taken directly to a webpage about that course.
Another suggestion is to add a mental health sub‐category to the 'services' tab because "stay well" can be little bit vague and some students may find this to be a barrier in accessing the

‐ Is there a way to include a short description for each or at least some of the icons? So instead of hovering over the 'Inclusive Learning' icon and getting the 'Inclusive Learning' title again,
you would get a description like 'Access tools to make learning easier' or something that actually tells you what you can do once you click on the link. Some, like 'Printing' seem pretty self‐
explanatory but even then the description could be more action‐based like 'Check printing balance and print documents'.
Thoughts:
‐ Nice and clean looking. Simple and effective design elements.
‐ Titles in Te Reo are great!
‐ The mobile view looks good.
‐ The Student ID profile photo seems unnecessary and there is no option to change this. If this is a personal portal, it should be customisable to a certain point.
‐ Not sure what MyWorkspace does (see point about adding short descriptions).

I really like the use of Te Reo Māori, as someone who does not really speak any I think this is a good way to help me pick up a word or two without it being forced.

‐ When I clicked on the 'MyDegree 'and 'MyAllocator' features on Pūha it took me to the general 'my tools' web page and when I clicked on the MyDegree link (on vic‐uni my tools web

page) the features were not working (may have just be the website was down but not sure) (It would just refresh the main my tools webpage)
‐ also the Student records tab when clicked stated 'Forbidden' (see image). When I logged in normally through the my tools web page and not Pūha it worked fine.
‐ It is nice to have all the features in one place though
‐ The Study feature was very cool, as well as the Maps and other navigation bar features :)

This tool seems better than having to search all over Victoria University's website, as I have done in the past. However, I do feel as though it is no where near the services offered by the

A few suggestions:
Profile | Contacts ‐ the Edit personal detail link is unavailable when I am viewing my contact details. If I want to update me email address or phone, I have to currently go to the personal
details tab and click on the link from there
My Results ‐ love this section and the way is is easily laid out for viewing. Only issue was trying to click on the View all results link and getting the Forbidden Error Message
